The femoral vein extends up the inner thigh along the |femoral artery| toward the groin where it joins with the internal saphenous |vein| and becomes the external iliac. The femoral vein receives the greater part of the ~blood~ from the legs. This |vein| has four or five |valves| to assist in the transport of ~blood~. The |valves| open to let ~blood~ through, and close to prevent it from flowing backward.
